Autonomous Robot

In our second-year design class, we took on the challenge of creating an autonomous robot. By integrating ultrasonic sensors, Autodesk Inventor for CAD, and Arduino for programming, we developed a smart and efficient machine capable of navigating its surroundings and avoiding obstacles. Throughout the project, we honed our teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering skills, resulting in the successful construction of a cutting-edge robotic system. This experience ignited our passion for robotics and encouraged us to explore more complex projects in the future.

What?

I led the development of an autonomous robot with a primary focus on optimizing weight and speed. The project aimed to achieve a significant weight reduction compared to the class median, while ensuring reliable obstacle detection and navigation capabilities.

How?

-Employed CAD modeling on Autodesk Inventor to design the robot efficiently. The iterative design process allowed for continuous improvement and optimization.

-Programmed an Arduino microcontroller, which served as the robot's brain, and integrated ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection and navigation.

-Implemented GD&T to create engineering drawings for the manufacturer and a BOM for purchased parts

Final Results

During our second-year design class, we embarked on an exciting project to create an autonomous robot that would stand out in terms of both innovation and efficiency. Our team focused on optimizing the robot's design to achieve remarkable weight reduction, successfully reaching an impressive 67.3% decrease compared to the class median. This achievement not only enhanced the robot's mobility but also demonstrated our ability to find inventive solutions to engineering challenges.

To equip our robot with heightened awareness and adaptability, we strategically integrated ultrasonic sensors into its design. These sensors enabled the robot to detect obstacles in its path and navigate around them with remarkable precision. Our diligent programming and algorithm development ensured swift and reliable responses, showcasing the robot's exceptional autonomy and efficiency.

Witnessing our creation in action, autonomously maneuvering and avoiding obstacles, was a gratifying experience that underscored the potential of intelligent robotics. This project not only refined our technical skills but also instilled in us a passion for pushing the boundaries of innovation in the field of robotics.
